Welcome to Walliams Class. This class is taught by Mr Friggieri.
What an AMAZING start we have made in Year 4 this year. The children are settled and happy and are eagerly looking forward to their learning this half term.
In reading we are looking at the Phillip Pullman modern classic the Firework-maker’s Daughter – which follows our heroine – Lila – as she embarks on an adventure of a life-time to the summit of the fearsome Mount Merapi. Here she must defeat the elusive Fire-Fiend, in her quest to become a firework-maker like her father.
In art we will be looking at the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and will be learning some of her techniques to create our own self portraits. We will be looking at contrasting colours and using fractions to help us create exotic artwork that is well proportioned and bursting with colour!
Our history topic this half-term is ancient Egypt. We will be learning about Howard Carter, hieroglyphics and mummification as well as the mighty River Nile – discovering and learning about this great waterway’s use in helping normal Egyptian folk and the Pharaos – Oh mummy!
This theme will transition over to literacy where we will be writing descriptive narratives based around Tadeo Jones, an archeologist with a taste for ancient Egypt. This writing will incorporate thoughts and feelings – whip-crackingly exciting! Our writing will also link to our reading book and we will use this as inspiration to fuel our narrative poem based around Mount Merapi – an enormous, explosive, erupting volcano.
