Rowling Class – Year 5

Welcome to Year 5.

Next year, in Year 5, is going to be soooo much fun!  We’ve got so much GREAT learning to do!  In literacy we’ll be looking at lots of different genres of writing and will be putting these into practice as we undertake: instructional writing, descriptive story writing and writing newspaper reports  We will be reading: Cool! and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and through these books we will be learning to use and develop our inference and deduction skills. In art, we will be looking at a whole host of different artists, we will be using these artists’ work as inspiration for our own original work as well as recreating famous pieces of work.  In maths, we will be developing and building on what we’ve already learned in Lower Key Stage 2, moving on to more formal methods of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication as well as looking at problem solving and reasoning activities.  In science, we will be carrying out investigations and experiments as we learn about topics, including: Earth and space and properties of materials as well as looking at the life cycles of mammals and amphibians.  And finally, inPE will be looking at a whole host of invasion games (football, hockey and basketball) as well as developing our athletics skills in athletics.
