Welcome to Dahl Class: Year 3!
We’re thrilled to launch into an exciting year of learning in a class named after the beloved storyteller, Roald Dahl. While his wonderful books anchor our class library and reading time, we also enjoy exploring a diverse range of other authors to inspire a lifelong love for reading.

Curriculum
Literacy
We’ll be exploring different writing genres throughout the year, focusing on mastering various grammatical features and word classes (like nouns, verbs, and adjectives) so the children can recognize them and use them to polish their work. Get ready for some truly amazing writing!
Mathematics
We’re solidifying and expanding the skills children learned in Year 2. A major focus will be on mastering times tables/multiplication, with support from the engaging platform TT Rockstars. We’ll also continue to develop their knowledge of addition, subtraction, division, and crucial shape and space skills.
Science
Science is all about hands-on discovery! Our fascinating topics include light, rocks, plants, and forces. The children will have ample opportunities to carry out investigations and practical activities to make their learning tangible and fun.
Topic: History & Geography
Our Topic lessons will alternate between the two subjects each half-term:
-
Historical Journeys: We’ll travel from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, study the legacy of the Romans, and examine the evolution of Medicine Through Time.
-
Geography Adventures: Topics include “Countries of the World,” “Where Does Our Food Come From?”, and a close look at life “In the Desert.”
Computing
We focus on digital literacy, starting with crucial online safety. We’ll demystify how technologies work by exploring concepts like inputs, outputs, and processes, relating them to everyday devices. Children will develop foundational skills in coding, programming, and understanding algorithms.
Spanish
¡Hola! We will build confidence in speaking Spanish by developing skills in meeting and greeting and learning how to talk about ourselves. We’ll also revise key vocabulary for animals and food and explore the geographical features of Spain and its neighbouring countries.
Art & Design Technology (DT)
Creative projects will focus on developing an understanding of patterns and applying this to different types of weaving. We’ll be experimenting with various materials and colours. In DT, we’ll also investigate the mechanics of levers and joints in our design work.
It’s going to be a rich and rewarding year in Dahl Class!
