Welcome to Years 1&2
This class is taught by Miss Bryant with the support of Mrs Peck.
We are a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class and we are named after the famous author Dr. Seuss.
Around the classroom, there are displays and characters linked to some of his most famous books, and there are plenty of his books to read in our book corner.
Class Dojo will be the main source for information, photos and updates about things going on in our class. You can message me on there too if you have any queries or concerns.

Statutory Assessment
At the end of Year 1 the children will take part in the Phonics Screening. This is conducted in June by the classroom teacher and it assesses the children’s phonological awareness. The screening consists of 40 words, 20 of which are real words and 20 that are pseudo (alien) words.
The end of Key Stage 1 (Year 2) assessments are now non-statutory. However, for those children
that did not meet the expected standard in the Year 1 phonics screening, they will be required to
retake the screening in Year 2 (summer term).
Homework
Homework will be given out at the beginning of the half term and handed in a week before the end of half term. This is aimed to consolidate and embed the learning that has taken place in school over the half term. A check will be done weekly on those tasks that are required to be done weekly.
Children will be given a homework book to complete their homework in.
Reading – we recommend that you read with your child at least 3 times a week. The more times they read, the more dojos they will receive. Little and often is the key to embedding and improving reading and comprehension skills.
Your child will bring home one reading for pleasure book, which they can change at any point
through the week (they will need to remember to do this themselves). They will also have access to a Monster Phonics book.
Please ensure that any reading you complete with your child is recorded in their reading record.
Spellings – a spelling test will be conducted every Friday. After that spelling test, new spellings will
be put on dojo and a paper copy will be handed out on the same night. The spellings are based on
the phonics sounds they will be learning.
PE
Our PE day is Thursday. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately on PE days. Long hair must be tied back and earrings taken out. If they cannot be taken out, please send some plasters into school so they can be covered.
Lastly, please make sure that all items of clothing and belongings are clearly named.
Thank you.
