Statutory assessment
At the start of Reception Class the children will take part in ‘The Reception Baseline Assessment’. This is a statutory assessment that is conducted in the first 6 weeks.
At the end of Year 1 the children will take part in the Phonics Screening. This is conducted in June by the classroom teacher and it assesses the children’s phonological awareness. The screening consists of 40 words, 20 of which are real words and 20 that are pseudo (alien) words.
Homework
Homework will be given out on a half termly basis and is aimed to consolidate and embed the learning that has taken place during that half term.
The children will be given a homework book to complete their homework in and can hand it in during the last week of term.
Reading – we recommend that you read with your child at least 3 times a week. The more times they read, the more dojos they will receive. Little and often is the key to embedding and improving reading fluency and comprehension skills.
Later in the Autumn term, your child will be given a Monster Phonics book. This will be changed on a weekly basis. Reading the book more than once will continue to develop sound recognition, segmenting and blending skills and improve fluency.
Please ensure that any reading you complete with your child is recorded in their reading record.
PE
Our PE day is Thursday. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately on PE days. Long hair must be tied back and earrings taken out. If they cannot be taken out, please send some plasters into school so they can be covered.
Lastly, please make sure that all items of clothing are clearly named.
Thank you.
